Read Sheet Music Plus's complete. This is likely my most used book over a long teaching career. It is a great help to the development of finger dexterity and has two advantages that make it superior to most Czerny. First, its level begins at a low intermediate and gradually advances. Second, the selections are short.as short as four measures, thus avoiding the endless extended examples many of us learned as students. The selections can be practiced slowly and returned to and polished at a higher level of speed and musicality. I find that a student who has learned the first twenty-five to thirty examples now has a solid technical foundation.

I have never used the longer exercises in the second part of the book, but usually have two or three of the first fifty assigned each week. 19 of 31 people found this review helpful.

Was this review useful?. 3 Allison Location: Zionsville, IN Difficulty Level: Not sure. 2011-08-09 00:00:00.0 Easy to Read. Study exercises (like Czerny for example) are like eating your veggies: they aren't always fun, but they're still good for you.

Previously I had played mostly Hanon exercises which focus on even fingering and agility. Czerny, I think, is a little more versatile.

This book is clear and. Easy to read, which is imporant to know when buying what I like to call 'study' music.
